Our Early Years Centre

Offers a special UK-based programme in a safe and stimulating environment with its own purpose built facilities.

We offer parents and children a flexible timetable and children can join the programme from the age of 14 months. Our toddlers benefit from a low child-adult ratio, with professional, well-trained and experienced staff.

The Centre allows children to be introduced to English, but always with the familiarity of Spanish at hand. The learning framework follows the UK guidelines for children at this stage of their development.

Learning is intrinsic to children and we provide a framework that encourages even the youngest to learn, in an environment where they are valued and respected as individuals and where their accomplishments are celebrated.

e

We make this possible by creating a safe and positive atmosphere, in which they can discover the world through exploration and interaction with others.

The UK Guidelines for children of this age are divided into four basic aspectsthese are:

  • A Strong Child
  • A Skilful Communicator
  • A Competent Learner
  • A Healthy Child

Each Aspect is subdivided into four Components:

A Strong Child  Explores the ways in which significant adults and the physical environment have an impact upon a child’s developing sense of himself and his group identity, emotional world and his relationship with others.

A Skilful Communicator   Helps the young child to start making sense of what is going on around him and express himself; the child also starts to learn about communication. Through listening and responding appropriately, he begins to understand the importance of paying attention to sounds and language, interpreting non-verbal signals, imitating, repeating and mirroring others.

Competent Learners From birth, very young children explore the world through touch, sight, sound, taste, smell and movement. The child becomes increasingly imaginative in pretend play by experimenting with a variety of stimuli including sound and movement. Thus he develops his creativity as a basis for future learning.

A Healthy Child Means much more than having nutritious food and being free from illness. Physical, social and emotional health and well-being are crucial for a child’s ability to respond appropriately to his environment, to people and to new experiences. After the Edron Early Years Centre, the child continues his learning in our Kinder.

Aims

Our aim is to provide the best start to the young child's school experience in a happy, tension-free environment in which there is structure and order.

Each child is treated as unique, and his individual development and progress are monitored carefully. It is very important that each child should progress at his own rate, and where extra support is needed, it is given.

We are concerned about our pupils’ social, intellectual, physical and emotional growth. Children in our care are encouraged to develop self-discipline and show respect for others, as well as for our environment. A great deal of time is spent on the acquisition of language skills.

With parents’ involvement we aim to form children who take a lively interest in learning and who will continue to enjoy learning throughout their lives.

Our attitudes towards ethnicity, gender and social status eliminate prejudice and stereotyping, so that every child has an equal opportunity to succeed and all people are treated with equal respect.

Structure

In the Kinder we educate children from three to six years of age. There are three year groups: Reception, Transition and Year 1. The Reception and Transition classes have 18 children each, while in Year 1’s there are 24. Each class is taught by a fully qualified teacher, and classroom assistants are available most of the time to help give children more individual attention. We also have nannies and an extensive security, cleaning and maintenance staff.

Curriculum

We provide opportunities to develop the child’s social, emotional, creative, physical and cognitive development, as well as laying the foundation for his acquisition of English. Our curriculum is based on the UK National Curriculum which starts by encouraging the development of appropriate skills in Reception in preparation for more formal learning in Transition and Year 1.

Events

A variety of events takes place throughout the year for the children’s enjoyment and extends learning outside the classroom. These include our concerts, Halloween and Easter parades, outings, sports day and a visit from Santa.
