Early Years Centre

On August 2006 a pre-nursery section was opened to offer a special new programme in a purpose built, safe and stimulating environment.

The Edron Early Years Centre provides parents and children with a flexible timetable - both in terms of the hours and the days children attend. Children can join the programme from the age of 12 months. Toddlers benefit from a low child-adult ratio, with professional, well-trained and experienced staff. The Centre allows children to be introduced to English, but always with the familiarity of Spanish at hand. The learning framework will follow the UK guidelines for children at pre-nursery age.

Learning is intrinsic to children and at the Edron Early Years Centre we wish to provide a framework that encourages even the youngest to learn, in an environment where they are valued and respected as individuals; where their accomplishments are celebrated. We will ensure this is possible by providing them with a safe and positive atmosphere, where they can discover the world, through exploration and the interaction with others (children and adults).

Children learn by doing, not by being told, however, it is important that they can carry this out in a safe setting, where they can be lead by a responsible teacher whom they can trust.

At this early stage, the child is the focus. The British Guidelines for children of this age are divided into four basic "Aspects" which are:

Each Aspect is divided into four Components.

A Strong Child - Explores the ways in which both significant adults and the physical environment have an impact upon children's developing sense of themselves and their group identity, emotional worlds and their relationship with others.

A Skilful Communicator helps young children to start making sense of what is going on around them and express themselves; they also start to learn about “conversation2. Through listening and responding appropriately, they start understanding the importance of paying attention to sounds and language, interpreting non-verbal signals, imitating, repeating and mirroring others.

Competent Learners from birth, very young children explore the world through touch, sight, sound taste, smell and movement, their sensory and physical explorations affect the patterns that are laid down in the brain. They become increasingly imaginative in pretend plat, and by experimenting with sound, media and movement they develop their creativity and representation.

Being A Healthy Child means much more than having nutritious food and being free form illness. Physical, social and emotional health and well-being are crucial for children's ability to respond appropriately to their environment, to people and to new experiences.

From the Edron Early Years Centre , the children will continue their learning in our Nursery or Reception classes, working with our Early Years/ Foundation Stage Programmes (Key Stage 0)
