International Baccalaureate Diploma Programe

Structure

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a rigorous pre-university course of studies, leading to examinations that meet the needs of highly motivated secondary school students between the ages of 16 and 19 years. Designed as a comprehensive two - year curriculum that allows its graduates to fulfill requirements of various national educational systems, the diploma programme is based on the pattern of no single country but incorporates the best elements of many. By the end of June 2002, there were in total 1341 schools registered to follow the IB programme in 112 different countries. In Mexico there are now more than 20 schools that offer the IB programme, although very few offer the Bilingual Diploma.

The diploma is displayed in the shape of a hexagon with six academic areas surrounding the core. Subjects are studied concurrently and students are exposed to the two great traditions of leaning: the humanities and the sciences.

Students are required to select one subject from each of the six groups. At least three and not more than four are studied at higher level, the others at standard level. By arranging work in this fashion, students are able to explore more subjects than is allowed by the early specialization preferred in some national systems.

Distribution requirements ensure that the science-orientated student is challenged to learn a foreign language and that the natural linguist becomes familiar with laboratory procedures. While overall balance is maintained, flexibility in choosing higher level conditions allows the student to pursue areas of personal interest and to meet the special requirements of university entrance.

Students are also required to take a course called Theory of Knowledge where they will, examin how we learn across all subject areas. They must also participate in Creativity, Action Service (CAS) programme, which gives them an opportunity to give something back to their community. Here are some of the organizations we are working with at present: Profeco, Vida Plena (Ancianos), Casa Hogar San Vicente, Guardia 33 del IMSS and Centro de Información y Comunicación en Educacion Ambiental de Norteamerica.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme opens many doors to prestigious further educational establishments. Ex-students from the EDRON are or have in the past studied in universities in The United Kingdom, Canada, The United States of America, France and Switzerland. Edron students have also entered many Universities in Mexico, examples being, UNAM, ITAM, Universidad Anahuac del Sur & the Universidad Iberoamericana amongst others.

Revalidation

For students hoping to continue their studies in Mexico, it is possible to revalidate their studies with UNAM.

Class sizes at the Edron mean that personalized education can take place as group numbers never exceed 24 and are often less than 10 students per class.

Each year students will take part in a group trip. In the past our Prepa students have traveled as far a field as England, Cuba and Canada. Closer to home groups have been to Queretero, San Miguel de Allende, Chiapas and many other places.
