Singing number songs. 3. Learning and repeating number rhymes. 4. Recognizing and finding simple shapes in their environment. Some Examples of How You Can Help Us With Transition MathematicsPlaying number and dice related games: Snakes and ladders Ludo Monopoly 2. Counting everyday objects at home: Pasta Beans Plates Glasses 3. Start a measuring wall at home to measure the height of your child / children. 4. Role-playing shops. Practising exchanging ´money´. 5. Use English mathematical vocabulary whenever possible. 6. Encourage children to estimate times and amounts. 7. Sing number rhymes and number songs. 8. Reading numerals. For example: Channel numbers on television Page numbers in books. 9.Challenges to find different 2 dimensional shapes around the house, the supermarket, on the way to school. 10. Practicing mental addition and subtraction facts, first to 5 and then to 10. Counting everyday objects at home: Pasta Beans Plates Glasses Start a measuring wall at home to measure the height of your child / children. Role-playing shops. Practicing exchanging ´money´ and later, giving change. Encourage your children to make real transactions using real money in real shops. Use English mathematical vocabulary whenever possible. Encourage children to estimate times and amounts. Sing number rhymes and number songs. Reading numerals. For example: Channel numbers on television Page numbers in books. Challenges to find different 2 dimensional shapes around the house, the supermarket, on the way to school. Challenges to find different 3 dimensional shapes around the house, the supermarket, on the way to school. Practice addition and subtraction facts, first to 10, then to 20. Practice addition doubles, first to 10 then 20. E.g. 1 + 1, 2 + 2, 3 + 3 etc. Use home made number cards to order numbers, first to 10, then 20, and then 50. Count by rote, first to 10, then 20, then 50 then 100 and higher. Work together to first create and then answer word based sums. Eg If you had 8 apples and you ate 1, how many do you have left. Use questions to improve your childs understanding. Eg : Who has more? How many more? Who has fewer? What is the difference? How much older is __________? How many plates do we need? Use construction equipment to build specified objects. Practise writing numerals , first to 10, then 20 then 100. |
