Friday 22nd May, 2008

Dear parents,

Rather than highlight all the events that are happening this term, I would like to dedicate a little time to mention different areas of staff training that our management team have received or will be participating in. Last week I was fortunate enough to attend a 4 day conference in Santiago de Chile, for Headteachers of British schools in Latin America. Apart from sharing experiences with leaders of similar schools, the theme for the conference was responsible international education, which was invaluable and I have certainly returned with many interesting proposals. The links provided by such an organisation means that our teachers and students will be able to attend informal workshops on areas such as Arts and IT, whilst, at the Edron, we will be able to invite schools to participate in similar events. The organization also offers services such as school evaluation which we will certainly take advantage of.

In two weeks time, Mr Andrés Suárez and Mr Phil Davison will be representing the Edron at the IB
Conference in Costa Rica. This again gives the opportunity to keep up to date with all the changes and to meet and share experiences with colleagues from schools throughout Latin America. Towards the end of term, Miss Andrea Blamire will be going to England to visit Secondary schools in order to consider their management systems, pastoral support and possible exchanges with them. During the summer, Mrs Irene Szymanski, is participating in a course on managing primary teams which also sounds very beneficial.

I am sure that all of these courses will not only be of value to the individual member of staff but also the Edron will gain from all that is learnt; the final beneficiaries being the students.

School Arrival Times

A number of students have recently been arriving late at school. May I remind you that students who are exempt from the bus system should be in school at 7:10 a.m. and all other students by 7:35 a.m.

Please make note that from next week, we will not allow students in late.

SECONDARY NEWS

We are delighted to let you know that we have a new electronic whiteboard in Secondary Maths. Thanks go to the Parents’ Association who recently gave $16,000 to Secondary so that we were able to buy the board. It will be put to very good use.

Congratulations to England House who were the winners of this year’s House Music Competition. Once again, the standard of music was very high this year with superb performances from students in years 5 to 13. Well done to everyone who took part. The House Rounders Competition was won by Ireland in years 7 and 8 and by Wales in 9,10 and 12. The match against the teachers took place on Monday and was won by the students. In June we are pleased to announce that we will be holding our first ever inter-house quiz. Whilst England House is still in the lead, it is not too late for the other houses to catch them

Reports for all students in years 7-10 and 12 will go home to parents on Monday 16th June. Secondary exam week is from Wednesday 18th – Tuesday 22nd June. More details will follow shortly.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

To all parents whose children will be leaving school early and missing exams this term – we regret to inform you that it is NOT possible to move exams to accommodate children who will be leaving before exam week. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Years 11 and 13 are currently in the middle of their public examinations, which are going very smoothly. This Friday 23rd May, we will be holding our first formal Year 13 Graduation Ceremony in school. On Saturday 24th staff, students and families will be celebrating the end of IB exams with a party to be held at the Centro Banamex. For students in Year 13, exam results come out on 5th July. Students in Year 11 have to wait until 11th August for their exam results.

Prize Giving is on Thursday 12th of June. Students who are receiving prizes should have brought a letter home this week.

Can we remind students that expensive items such as iPods and cell phones are brought into school at the owner’s personal risk. Please make sure that you take care of all of your belongings in school.

As part of their PSE programme on Vocational Guidance, students in year 12 have been doing a series of aptitude tests for the last 4 weeks. Their results will be available to them before the end of term.
